To discuss the proposed reforms, the IRSV has invited a panel of leading academic, employer and union speakers to share their views about the proposed changes with colleagues.
We are excited to welcome: the Hon Peter Gray OA, Virginia Wills and Chris O'Grady KC.
The Hon Peter Gray OA
Peter was the youngest person ever appointed to the Federal Court of Australia and at 29 years its longest ever serving member. During his time at the court Peter delivered over 1,700 decisions. Justice Gray's main focus has been on labour law. and the law and its impact on Aboriginal Australians. Peter's interests include: Music, he loves music, carrying around a mouth organ with him wherever he goes. He is currently president of the Camberwell Music Society.
Virginia Wills, National Industrial Officer at the ASU
Virginia Wills is a National Industrial Officer at the Australian Services Union. Virginia has diverse legal and industrial experience within organisations including law firms, UFU and the ASU. In her current role, Virginia is bargaining on behalf of Apple workers and Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Award covered workers. Virginia is also a GAICD and has experience on boards currently including the Council for Single Mothers and their Children.
Chris O'Grady KC
Prior to coming to the bar in 1992 Chris worked as a junior associate to Sir Gerard Brennan in the High Court of Australia and as associate to John Hassett in the Victorian County Court. Chris has been involved in a number of the leading employment/industrial cases over the last 30 years including: Electrolux, Emwest, Kellogg Brown & Root and Barclay. In 2020, 2021 and 2022 he was named as one of Doyle’s pre-eminent Queens Counsel of the industrial bar of Victoria. For over 20 years, Chris has presented the advocacy course conducted by the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria along with Brian Lacy, a former Senior Deputy President of the AIRC.

About our Patron
Brian Lacy has had a longstanding relationship with the IRSV including having served as our President and as President of the Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association. Brian is a former Senior Deputy President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and a former Administrator for Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Brian currently practises at the Victorian Bar specialising in employment industrial, anti-discrimination and administrative law.
