Women in Industrial Relations Interest Group

Established in 1997, the Women in Industrial Relations Interest Group (WIRIG) is an initiative of the IRSV focusing on the needs and interests of the women working in the field of industrial and employee relations.

WIRIG has been successful in bringing together industrial relations professionals from a range of industries and workplaces via informal and formal functions. Those involved believe that the variety of venues and styles of presentations have contributed to the successful forums for networking opportunities.

Previous speakers have included:

  • The Hon Natalie Hutchins (former Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Women),
  • Elite sportswomen Jodie Fields, Melissa Barbieri and Moana Hope,
  • Christine Nixon (former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police; former Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority),
  • Dr Helen Szoke (former Race Discrimination Commissioner; former Chief Conciliator/CEO of the Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commission),
  • Former Fair Work Ombudsman and Chair of the Victorian Inquiry into the On Demand Workforce, Natalie James.

In 2020, we were privileged to host Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), speaking from Brussels.
