'Two and Two Make Five: Industrial Relations and the Gentle Art of Double Think'
The bi-annual Sir Richard Kirby lecture is to be held on Wednesday 20 August 2003 at the Stamford Plaza. Sir Richard Kirby will be well remembered within the industrial relations field and was the President of the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission from 1956 to 1973.
This year's Sir Richard Kirby lecture will be given by Associate Professor Braham Dabscheck. Braham Dabscheck is an associate professor in the School of Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour at the University of New South Wales. Professor Dabscheck has published a number of books, articles, chapters in books and delivered conference papers on various issues associated with Australian industrial relations and industrial relations in professional team sports. He was also the editor of 'The Journal of Industrial Relations' from 1990 to 1999 and is currently on the editorial boards of a number of journals.
Professor Dabscheck's paper will examine the Cole Royal Commission into the Building Industry, bargaining fees and employee entitlements. It does so through the perspective of George Orwell's notion of double think.
